Task Description: Treatment Updates

Task: This task creates combines treatment polygons/attributes initially collected at Roadshows, with subsequent changes submitted by the agencies and/or Donna Leonard.

Rationale: To collect and sort out treatment change orders, and make files for various tasks from them for distribution back through the project.

Timeline: October through March.

Brief Process Description:

Initial shapefile data comes from meeting with the states in Roadshow meetings. The output from this is trt<yy>_sts_dd_<MMdd>.shp. Its most important components are treatment polygons with treatment type and dosage. Acreage is derived from the polygons. Names and unique Ids are added for easier identification and manipulation. The shapes and priority values of Proposed Problem Areas aide in this decision making process, along with the values of the latest catch tables.
The agencies and Donna negotiate on these values, and Donna adds estimated Treatment Acreage and Rank as these numbers are firmed up. Alterations in shape, name, treatment and dosage, estimated acreage, rank, agency, and notes are recorded by unique ID and placed in ftp:\\donna\updates_<state abbreviation—sometimes omitted>_<Mmdd>.xls. As needed, geoJpegs are occasionally written as screen captures and sent to Donna or the agencies for confirmation of changes.

Exports this information periodically, in one process, to all Output files listed below.

The task described below delineates how this ran through the Fall and Winter of 2001-2002.

STS Treatment Tools

Load this extension STS Treatment Tools into any project, new or otherwise.
Go to View menu STS Treatment Tools The editing tools are as follows:
Add/Edit Treatment Shapefiles (using Screen Digitize)
Update all acreage and vertex count, check for unique ID
Sum Acreage by Treatment and Dosage
Update GIS Attributes (will also work on a selection of the records)
Copy/Paste Polygon (for copy/pasting a shape with the same unique ID between records).
Update Treatment Records (for updating shape AND attribute information between shapefiles), makes the Update_<Mmdd>.xls which records only changes.
Import from Donna’s Excel (to bring Excel information on records into a project)
Go to View menu STS Treatment Tools The editing tools are as follows:
Export to Excel for Donna (export all, or one state’s, information from shapefile to Excel
Export a GeoJpeg to Donna (for exporting a geo-referenced Jpeg of a view.
Export Project Files - at the completion of an editing process, this routine works on an active file, and exports all other files above (and a Donna Excel spreadsheet also.)

Extension Location: abyss\\utilities\ sts_treatment_tools.avx

Auxiliary File Location: $UTILITIES\support\default.prj—the source for all STS projection parameters.

Source machine: anywhere abyss is mapped to drive "O:"

Extension variables: $USEREXT and $UTILITIES must be mapped to abyss\\utilities in machine’s autoexec.bat. For making reprojections, the section of the routine converting the database textfile into the .dbf must have access to $UTILITIES\support\default.prj—the master file of STS projection parameters

Location of workspace: abyss\data\treatments is where files are compiled and updated and then sent as final products above. Then, a copy of the datestamped shapefile above is copied back to the abyss\\data\treatments file with the string "_edits" added to the name: abyss\\data\treatments\trt<yy>_sts_dd_<MMdd>_edits.shp, the copy being edited of the latest submitted version.

Notes:

Presently, this routine processes STS catch data from the database ONLY. A separate routine processes non-STS catch data (cf. Task Description: Processing Non STSCatch data), and must be performed before merging with stscatch to make an allcatch file
The following files are created in process of creating the above, and can be deleted at anytime: temp_stscatch_header.txt (header representing field names and widths from database), copycat.bat (concatenates header text and database textfile to make temporary table), and temp_table.txt (the temporary table).

They are not automatically deleted, only so that errors can be traced back, if needed.

Run the above.
At completion, tell Mannin Dodd latest alb<yyyy>.txt is ready to be run on decision algorithm.
Updated .dbf can now be used to run WebMaps Update.
stscatch_updated_complete.shp is available and a pared down spatial source of moth catch, for use on strip maps and in other continuing project mapping.
