Task Description: Roadshow: Processing the Digitized Project Boundaries and Delimiting Grids

This document modified on: 12 April 2002

Task: Create the allgrids file at the decision meetings.

Rationale: To supply the state cooperators with a digital copy of their STS area grid densities and treatment areas.

Timeline: September-October

Brief Process Description:

Move digitized project boundaries to coincide with USGS quad borders.
Assign PPA ID and Priority values to the digitized delimiting grids and treatments.
Assign Agency and State values to the digitized delimiting grids and treatments.
Assign trap type values to the project boundaries.
Assign Agency and State values to the project boundaries.
Update the project boundaries with the delimiting grids to create new Allgrids shapefile.
Convert digitized treatments and attributes to new shapefile.

dm02_digpb2qdbnds

Locates project boundary theme in the View.

Locates Quad/State Intersect theme and State Border theme in the View.

Checks to see that all polygons have a value in the Gridtype and Project fields.

Gets unique values for the Project field (action, action1, monit1, monit2).

For each unique value in the Project Field, does the following:

Selects all project boundary polygons with that value in the Project field
Copies fields and values for those polygons
Selects quads that have centers with in the selected PB polygons.
Converts selected quads to temporary shapefile.
Dissolves quads in temporary shapefile into one polygon.
Adds saved fields and values to the dissolved polygons.

Merges the dissolved polygons into a new shapefile – pjt02_<date>.shp
Adds and computes Area, Acres, and Estimated Traps fields.
Changes name of merged theme in View to Pjt Boundaries for STS <date>
Applies pre-created legend to the new Project Boundaries Theme.

dm02_Spatial.Proximity

Locates Treatments, Delimiting Grids, and PPA themes in the View.

Finds or adds Project field in the delimiting grid table and sets the value to "action".
Finds Priority Index field in PPA table (indpriori)
Adds new Priority field to PPA table and sets values equal to (Priority Index * 100) so that these values can be assigned to the proximity grid cells to be created.
Returns the extents of the treatment and delimiting grid themes and unions them to create the extent to be used for the proximity grids to be created.
For both the PPA ID and the PPA Priority fields in the PPA table, does the following:
- Sets the Analysis Extent to the Union of the treatment and delimiting grid extents
- Sets the Analysis Cell Size to 500 meters
- Converts the PPA theme to a Grid using the selected field (ID or Priority) to assign values to the grid cells
- Using PPA Grid theme as input, creates a Proximity Grid for the PPA field values – codes all cells with the PPA field value that the cell is closest to.
- Adds the Proximity Grid to the View.
- Assigns appropriate legend to the Proximity Grid.
- Sets the Grid name in the View to ID_Proximity_2_PPAtheme or Priority_Proximity_2_PPAtheme.

dm02_ppa_assignment

Locates the delimiting grids, treatments, and Proximity_PPA-ID shapefiles in the View.

Finds or adds field "PPA2" to both the delimiting grid and treatment tables.

Finds the Gridcode field in the Proximity_PPA-ID table.

Selects each treatment block (and each delimiting grid).

Selects the Proximity polygon that intersects the selected treatment or grid.

Assigns ID number of the selected nearest PPA to each delimiting grid and each treatment block.

Deletes the Proximity_PPA-ID theme from the View.

dm02_priority_assignment

Locates the delimiting grids, treatments, and Proximity_PPA-Priority shapefiles in the View.

Finds or adds field "Priority2" to both the delimiting grid and treatment tables.

Finds the Gridcode field in the Proximity_PPA- Priority table.

Selects each treatment block (and each delimiting grid)

Selects the Proximity polygon that intersects the selected treatment or grid.

Assigns Priority number of the selected nearest PPA divided by 100 to each delimiting grid and each treatment block.

Deletes the Proximity_PPA- Priority theme from the View

dm02_ ag_state_assign_trt

Locates the treatment and STS agency themes in the View

Finds or adds Agency and State Abbreviation fields to the treatment table.

Selects each treatment block

Selects state/agency polygon that intersects each treatment block

Gets State and Agency values from that polygon and assigns them to the treatment block.

Selects State/Agency polygons that have a USFS code of 1, meaning the Forest Service is responsible for these areas.

Selects treatment blocks that intersect the USFS polygons.

Creates list of all treatment block names that intersect the USFS polygons.

For each treatment in that list, does the following: **Does this b/c we want to assign USFS agency values to any block that intersects USFS land, and the above process checks only the center of the polygons.

Selects the treatment block
Selects the State/Agency polygons that intersect the treatment block
Selects from selected State/Agency polygons the USFS State/Agency polygons.
If there are more than 1 USFS polygons, selects the first one.

Gets the Agency value of the selected USFS polygon and assigns it to the selected treatment polygon.
Finds or adds Area and Acres fields to the treatment table.
Computes Area in square kilometers and Acreage for each treatment block

dm02_ ag_state_assign_delims

Locates the delimiting grids and the sts_agency themes in the View.

Checks for presence of Project field in the delimiting grid table.

Creates new delimiting grid shapefile (delim02_attribs.shp) by running identity process on the digitized delimiting grids with the sts_agency theme.

Identity Process adds and fills state and agency fields in the delimiting grids table.

Calculates and adds Area, Perimeter, and Acres fields to the delimiting grids table.

Selects areas of delimiting grids with no agency values (such as parts of delimiting grids digitized over water) and deletes them from the table.

Deletes original, digitized delimiting grid theme from the View.

Dm02_pjtbnd_process

Locates Project Boundaries theme in the View.

Finds or adds trap type, ppa-id, and ppa-priority fields in the project boundaries table.

Selects project boundary polygons that have "action" as their trap type field value.

Sets the trap type value for the action polygons to "Delta".

Sets the trap type value for all other project boundary polygons (monit1, monit2) to "MC".

PPA ID and Priority fields (ppa2 & priority2) are all set to zero. These fields are added so that the project boundaries can be updated with the delimiting grids and the delimiting grid PPA-ID and Priority values will not be lost.

Dm02_ag_state_assign_pb

Locates Project Boundaries and STS Agency themes in the View.

Selects State and Agency fields in the STS Agency table to be added to the Project Boundaries theme.

Creates new Project boundaries shapefile (pjtbnd02_attribs.shp) by running identity process on the boundaries with the sts_agency theme – results in State and Agency fields being added and filled for the project boundaries.

Adds and calculates Area, Perimeter, and Acres fields to the new project boundaries shapefile.

Deletes previous version of project boundaries from the View.

Selects, then deletes all polygons with a null value in the Agency field (outside of STS state borders, i.e., in the ocean)

dm02_allgrids_create

Locates the delimiting grids and project boundaries themes in the View.

Selects all fields that are common to both themes.

Updates the project boundaries with the delimiting grids, keeping all attribute information in the common fields. This operation cuts out the areas of the project boundaries that intersect the delimiting grids, then fills the holes with the delimiting grids. In order for all the attribute data to be maintained, the delimiting grids and project boundary tables must have the same fields.

Update process creates new shapefile called Allgrids02_<date>.shp.

Calculates Area, Perimeter, and Acres fields for the new allgrids polygons.

Deletes the delimiting grids and project boundaries themes from the View.

Computes Estimated Traps for each allgrid polygon.

Assigns a pre-made legend to the allgrids theme.
